Media has learned of messages sent by Denmark to Trump's team on the Greenland issue

Copenhagen has contacted Washington and expressed readiness to discuss strengthening security in Greenland or increasing the US military presence on the island. This was reported on January 11 by the American portal Axios, citing sources.
"The Danish government wants to convince [United States President-elect Donald] Trump, including through messages delivered to his advisers this week, that security problems can be solved without declaring Greenland's belonging to the United States," the publication said.
According to the material, Trump needs Greenland to join the United States to ensure national security.
In addition, according to the sources of the publication, the Danish government asked the team of the future President of the States to clarify the meaning of his comments.
Denmark would like to avoid conflict with the future US administration, so the Danish authorities are ready to discuss the Greenland issue with America, the publication explained.
It is noted that Danish officials can not be sure that Trump's statements are not serious, after he and his son visited the island.
Earlier in the day it was reported that at the moment the parties in Greenland in favor of its independence do not have concrete plans to hold a referendum on the issue.
The day before, Greenlandic Prime Minister Muthe Bowrup Egede said that the population of the island does not want to be Danish. Greenlanders, he said, want to be Greenlanders and determine their own future independently.
Also on Friday, January 10, Trump posted a video on the social network Truth Social of Greenlanders asking him to buy the island. In the video, some of the islanders are wearing MAGA caps and answering questions.
Reacting to this, Danish media said that the participants in the video are vulnerable citizens bribed with a hotel dinner. A local resident was reported to have witnessed the Trump team's attempts to get Greenlanders to praise the president-elect on camera.
Trump said that for the US "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" on December 22, 2024, announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark. Prior to that, the U.S. politician had expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark in 2019, but was turned down. In the coming year, Trump was also indicated that the island is not for sale and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the United States.
