The Russian Armed Forces have liberated the settlement of Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic, the Russian Defense Ministry said on January 11.

"As a result of decisive actions, units of the Center group of troops liberated the settlement of Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic," the report said.

Over the day, the grouping defeated the manpower and equipment of three mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and a brigade of the National Guard on the territory of the region.

In the zone of responsibility of the Central grouping, the enemy lost up to 535 servicemen, a Leopard tank, five artillery pieces, four armored combat vehicles and three vehicles, the Defense Ministry specified.

Earlier, on January 6, it became known that the units of the group of forces "South" completely liberated the town of Kurakhovo - the largest population center in the southwestern part of Donbass. At the same time, the village of Dachenskoye was liberated in the Donetsk people's republic.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
