Several earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.5 occurred in Sochi on the morning of January 11. This was reported on the same day by the head of the seismological station of the resort Elena Karpovich.

"There was a swarm of earthquakes over the past few hours, the strongest was at 04:47 (local time, coincides with the Moscow time). Magnitude - 3.5, in perceptibility it will be 2-3 points", - she told "RIA Novosti".

It is noted that the cause of a series of earthquakes is the growth of young mountains of the Caucasus.

The phenomenon did not cause damage to infrastructure, told reporters in the press service of the State Department of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Krasnodar region.

The earthquake source was located about 20 km from the Bytha microdistrict in Lazarevsky district.

Earlier, on January 2, an earthquake with magnitude 4.2 was recorded in Kamchatka. It is noted that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 17 km. The origin of the seismic event was located 160 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
