At least 11 people died as a result of fires in Los Angeles County in the US state of California, CNN reported on Saturday, January 11.

The corresponding data recorded the county medical examiner. Preliminary, five people died in Palisades, another six - in Eaton.

It is noted that the exact number of deaths in the fires can not yet be established due to the fact that investigators can not without risk to themselves to travel to the affected areas.

At the moment, six wildfires with a total area of more than 15.2 thousand hectares continue in the county. The Eaton and Palisades fires are the largest of these.

Multiple wildfires in Los Angeles were reported on January 8. Earlier, 10 deaths were reported. Suppression continues, with strong winds fueling the fire and rescue crews lacking water. In connection with the fires in the state declared a major disaster regime. The projected damage from the disaster will be about $52-57 billion. More than 12.3 thousand buildings were destroyed.

One person was detained on suspicion of arson, which could be the cause of the largest fire in Los Angeles, January 9. He may face punishment up to life imprisonment.
