- In Britain, a court has prevented a man from searching for a $730 million bitcoin disk

A court in the UK rejected the claim of a man seeking compensation due to the loss of a disk with 8 thousand bitcoins, worth about $730 million, in a landfill in the city of Newport, the BBC reported on January 9.
"James Howells claimed that his former partner mistakenly threw away a hard disk with a bitcoin wallet in 2013 and he wanted to access the site and recover the cryptocurrency," the publication said.
According to the publication, Howells demanded from the authorities of Newport access to the dump or compensation in the amount of $604 million. The judge responsible for the appeal of the man called his demands inappropriate and rejected the claim.
Thus, Howells lost his last hope for the return of virtual currency.
The owner of the lost disk noted that his attempts to seek compensation from the authorities of Newport lasted 12 years and left him with nothing. According to him, this is a case of "the British system of injustice making itself known again".
Earlier, on December 28, 2024, it was reported that bitcoin has become the most profitable asset of 2024, according to a study by FinExpertiza. The value of the cryptocurrency jumped one and a half times immediately after the victory of Donald Trump in the US elections and reached a maximum of $108 thousand.
