More than 12.3 thousand buildings were destroyed due to fires in California. This was reported on January 10 by NBC News with reference to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection of the state.

The department provided information on the number of destroyed buildings, the area of fires and data on the current status of fires in the districts.

Because of the fire in Eaton Canyon in the Pasadena area, more than 5 thousand structures were damaged and destroyed.

The Pacific Palisades fire is reportedly the third most destructive fire in state history. It destroyed about 5,316 structures.

Numerous forest fires in Los Angeles were reported on January 8. Extinguishing continues, strong winds are fueling the fire, and rescue crews are short of water. Due to the fires, Biden declared a major disaster declaration in the state. AccuWeather, a consulting firm, has predicted that the damage and losses from the disaster will be on the order of $52-57 billion.

Biden, holding a briefing on the situation with the fires on January 9 , offered to "light up" the acting vice-president of the country Kamala Harris, as this situation affected her personally. The latter, looking at the President in surprise, continued her speech.

On January 10, a man was arrested on suspicion of arson, which may have started the largest fire in Los Angeles. He could face a sentence of up to life in prison. According to the latest data, at least 10 people became victims of the disaster.
