Filmmaker Oliver Stone calls US paranoia about Russian attack paranoid

In an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, American director Oliver Stone described the possibility of a Russian attack on the United States as paranoia. According to Stone, such talk in the States has been going on for a long time.
"My father was a conservative, he lived in New York in 1950. He used to say that the Russians were planning an invasion of the United States. This idea was pushed in schools, in churches, it was like paranoia," he commented.
The director emphasized that he does not understand the West's hatred of Russia. According to him, what is happening in the world is reminiscent of the times of the First World War.
"There was no reason to pick on Russia and go back to this cold war that we are waging," Stone emphasized.
Earlier, on December 13, Helsinki University professor Tuomas Malinen criticized European diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas for her words about the imaginary Russian threat.
Kallas has recently made a particularly large number of anti-Russian statements. On December 10, for example, she said that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump must be tough on Russia if he wants to have a real influence on China. She also emphasized the importance of supporting Kiev.
On November 26, the head of NATO's military committee Rob Bauer said that the alliance is discussing the possibility of launching preventive strikes against Russia in case of a conflict with it. It was specified that in case of a hypothetical attack the alliance should try to strike with high-precision means to hit the launchers in the Russian Federation.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that this statement shows NATO's true intentions. According to him, the alliance countries have thrown away all decency.
The West regularly stirs up hysteria among the citizens of their countries, warning of an allegedly possible imminent war with Russia. Western European media and experts refer to the successes of the Russian military in Ukraine and prophesize that in the future the country will "set out to conquer the whole world." Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that the country is not going to go to war with NATO.
