- An airliner with more than 200 passengers was evacuated in Atlanta because of a burning engine

Delta airline plane with more than 200 passengers on board was evacuated to a snow-covered runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta (Georgia) after an engine problem led to a canceled takeoff, causing four people to be injured. CNN reported on January 10.
"Something went wrong on takeoff and the engine caught fire. We had to emergency evacuate the plane," said passenger Curtis James.
Representatives for the airline and the airport did not comment on the cause of the fire.
"Delta airline crew followed established procedures to suspend takeoff of flight 2668 from Atlanta (ATL) to Minneapolis (MSP) following the discovery of engine trouble," the carrier said in a statement.
Four passengers reportedly suffered minor injuries. One person was taken to a medical facility, while the other three were treated on the spot.
The TV station notes that the incident occurred at the airport, which was hit hard by the snowfall that hit much of the southern US.
Earlier, on January 7, at least four people died due to a winter storm that hit the central United States.
On January 5, the TV channel SNN warned of possible record snowfalls during the storm in the United States. It is noted that snowfall and icy conditions are already observed in the central part of the country. As indicated by the TV channel, the amount of snowfall in some areas - 35 cm, and the thickness of ice - 70 mm.
On the same day in Washington introduced a state of emergency in connection with the impending snowstorm. Mayor Muriel Bowser urged residents to remove cars from emergency routes and stay at home. She also added that all schools in the city would be closed on January 6.
