Alexander Varnavsky, a plastic surgeon of the Aesthetic Surgery Clinic, spoke about the pros and cons of hair transplantation and who it may suit.

According to the specialist, the main advantage of hair transplantation is the restoration of natural hair density in problem areas.

"Modern transplant methods, such as FUE (follicular unit extraction), allow us to achieve the most natural result possible. Hair is transplanted one follicle at a time, which ensures its uniform growth and the absence of visible scars. At the same time, transplanted hair usually takes root for life. This means that the patient does not have to constantly resort to any procedures or drugs," Varnavsky explained in a conversation with RuNews24.Ru.

He added that for many people hair loss is a serious psychological problem and hair transplantation can help them feel more attractive and confident.

"At the same time, transplantation is effective not only for baldness, but also for hair regrowth after hair injuries or burns," the doctor said.

At the same time, Varnavsky warned that hair transplantation is an expensive surgical procedure, which has its own disadvantages and potential risks.

"This means there are risks during surgery, the use of anesthesia. It takes time to recover after surgery. Swelling, redness and soreness may occur for the first few days. Full healing and growth of transplanted hair takes several months," - said the expert.

Complications after hair transplantation include: infections, scarring, loss of transplanted hair, uneven hair growth.

In some cases, a repeat procedure may be required, especially for patients with pronounced baldness, he noted.

Varnavsky added that the ideal candidates for hair transplantation are men and women suffering from androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness), as well as those with localized areas of baldness caused by scarring or trauma.

On January 9, trichologist and MD Anna Goncharova warned that not wearing a hat in winter can worsen hair loss and increase the risk of infectious diseases. Overcooling of the head weakens the immune system, causing diseases such as meningitis, maxillary sinusitis and influenza, 360.ru reported.

A day earlier, on January 8, dermatovenerologist and trichologist Evgenia Stefanenko said that one of the causes of thinning hair can be problems with the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), writes "Moscow 24". This is due to impaired absorption of nutrients, resulting in insufficient electrolytes and trace elements. The process leads not only to hair loss, but also to changes in their structure, said Evgenia Stefanenko.

Earlier, trichologist, founder of the Eurasian Trichological Association Olga Kokhas told the agency of city news "Moscow" that to combat hair loss after the coronavirus should not use oils and injections, as it can only exacerbate the situation.

In winter, 60% of Russians faced increased hair loss, but only 30% of them are ready to seek help from a specialist, according to the study "Profi.ru", which was read by "Izvestia" on December 25, 2024. Instead, many prefer folk remedies or even believe that affirmations and positive thinking will help slow down the hair loss process.
