A possible meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump is significant. This opinion was expressed by Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, on Friday, January 10.

According to the deputy, Russia would like the United States to change its views on the security of Russia, Europe and the future of NATO. He called these issues the most important ones. If the United States hears what Russia has been saying for the past few years, it will be the most positive shift concerning both the relations between the two countries and the development of the world as a whole, the MP said.

Chepa noted that Ukraine will be one of the main issues of the meeting between the two leaders.

"It is clear that Trump currently does not have a clear plan on Ukraine, they are working it all out, so I think that the preparation will still take some time. We are not the ones who organized this conflict, and of course we are all waiting for it to end. We are waiting for its completion within the framework of the conditions that were outlined by President Putin last year, and here too it would be important for the Americans to understand and approach this issue productively," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

The deputy added that Russia would like to see some progress in the area of easing sanctions. He specified that he does not see great prospects in this matter, but added that smooth movement in this area is necessary, as the sanctions war negatively affects the global economy.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced the preparation of a meeting with Putin, according to the website kp.ru. At the same time, he did not name any specific dates, reports 360.ru.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 10 that Russia has no certain conditions for negotiations with the United States, Regnum news agency reported.

Earlier, on January 7, the US president-elect expressed confidence in Putin's desire to hold talks with him on Ukraine, RT reported.

On this day, Trump called President Biden's fiasco the cause of the conflict in Ukraine, reports NSN. The Republican assured that his team knows how to act in the context of this crisis.

The Russian President, in turn, told journalists on December 26 that the Russian Federation intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, not just freeze it.

Trump's team said on December 13 that it was holding talks with Ukrainian officials and the current White House administration on resolving the conflict. The Republican's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, then also allowed for the end of this crisis in the coming months.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
