The Netherlands has purchased 155 mm caliber artillery shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) for more than €1bn, the government of the kingdom said on 9 January.

In addition, the Netherlands provided the Ukrainian side with F-16 fighter jets, as well as contracts and financing for unmanned aerial vehicles. The amount of support amounted to €2 billion.

"The total amount of military support to Ukraine in the form of goods and (co)financing amounted to almost €6 billion," - stated in the publication.

Earlier, on October 11, 2024, the head of the Dutch Defense Ministry Ruben Brekelmans said that the country has allocated approximately €10.4 billion for military support to Ukraine for all time.

Before that, on October 6, he confirmed that the first of the 24 F-16 aircraft promised by the country had already been delivered to Kiev. Among other things, the Dutch defense ministry said that the kingdom was a pioneer in the development of drones and was ready to invest €400m in the development of Ukrainian drones.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
