US President-elect Donald Trump and his son Donald Trump - Jr. published in social networks a video in which the inhabitants of Greenland ask to buy their island. Local residents, in turn, said that the participants of the video are socially vulnerable citizens, bribed with a dinner at the hotel. The Danish TV channel DR said on January 10, citing sources.

"But several sources now tell DR that some of the people who appeared in the video from Trump's campaign headquarters <...> are homeless and socially vulnerable who are often in front of the grocery store in Nuuk (Gotthob. - Ed.), which is located directly opposite the Hans Egede Hotel," the publication said.

Thus, according to one of the residents of Nuuk, he recognized some of the participants of the video. They are homeless and low-income people. He said that these people were bribed with food to put on caps with Trump's movement MAGA (Make America Great Again) and pose for filming.

In addition, the publication's source said he witnessed the Trump team trying to get the Greenlanders to praise the president-elect of the United States on camera.

"I don't think it's normal. As far as I can see, people were given free food in exchange for a cap and participation in the masses in videos for social media and podcasts," Aja Chemnitz, a member of the Danish Greenlandic parliament, shared her opinion with the publication.

Earlier in the day, Trump posted a video on social network Truth Social of Greenlanders asking him to buy the island. In the video, some of the islanders are wearing MAGA caps and answering questions. During the interaction, it is revealed that they believe the US president-elect is a strong leader and are ready to become part of America. The video was shot by a group of the politician's son, who previously visited the island.

On the eve of the Danish newspaper Politiken reported that the authorities of the country addressed Trump with a proposal for dialog after his statements about the purchase of Greenland. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that people should treat the statements of the elected American leader more calmly. In his opinion, Trump can be taken seriously, but one should not take his words literally.

Earlier, on January 7, Aja Chemnitz said that the island is not and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the United States. The politician emphasized that establishing closer contacts with America is as important for Greenland as maintaining cooperation with Denmark.

On the same day, Donald Trump Jr, son of the US president-elect, flew to Greenland for a personal visit. Trump Jr. commented on his upcoming trip in a podcast the day before, on January 6, noting that it was planned at a time when his father was once again talking about buying the island.

Earlier, on Dec. 22, 2024, Trump, announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark, stressed that for the U.S. "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity." The American politician expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark back in 2019. Then he received a refusal.
