Four people have been arrested in the criminal case of the death of Russian journalist Inessa Papernaya and her companion in Tashkent's Karaman Palace Hotel in October 2024. This was reported in the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan on January 10.
"As part of the criminal case on the death of Inessa Papernaya and others, a measure of restraint - detention - has been applied to four accused persons. The investigation is continuing," RIA Novosti quoted a spokesman as saying .
According to the Uzbek portal kun.uz, the hotel owner, plumbers and two citizens who sold the hotel a substandard heating boiler have been taken into custody.
It is noted that the expertise recognized the boiler as outdated. In addition, it was found that during installation, technical details were removed from it - a siphon in the condensate drainage system, which caused carbon monoxide leakage during its use and led to the death of people.
In October 2024, it was reported that 47-year-old Russian journalist Papernaya and her companion, 45-year-old Maxim Radchenko, died in a Tashkent hotel. The tragedy occurred on the night of October 20. The bodies of the victims were sent for forensic medical examination.
After, on October 22, Radchenko's father said that the couple may have been poisoned by swamp gas (methane) vapors. He said that on the day of the man and woman's death, the hotel was cleaning the swimming pool, as a result of which methane gas was formed and got into the room through the ventilation system. The bodies of the victims were sent to Moscow. It was noted that as a result of the emergency also died a 48-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan.
