The Russian Armed Forces repelled four counterattacks by the AFU in the border area of Kursk Region

The Russian military has repulsed four attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) to counterattack in the border areas of Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 10.

"The units of the "North" group of forces defeated the formations of the tank, two mechanized, two airborne assault brigades and two brigades of the AFU territorial defense <...>. Four enemy counterattacks were repulsed," the ministry said.

The fighting took place in the areas of Viktorovka, Zamośće, Kositsa, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Malaya Loknya, Nikolayevka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novaya Sorochina, Pogrebki and Russkoe Porechnoye.

The losses of the AFU in the Kursk border area during the day: more than 280 military personnel, two tanks, six vehicles, three armored combat vehicles (ACVs), four infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), two mortars and six artillery pieces. In addition, three Ukrainian military personnel surrendered as prisoners of war.

The total losses of the AFU for the entire time of fighting in the Kursk border area amounted to up to 50,600 military personnel, 296 tanks, 1,520 BMPs, 222 BMPs, 161 armored personnel carriers (APCs) and other weapons and equipment, including Western-made ones.

Earlier in the day, military analyst and political analyst Vadim Mingalev noted in a conversation with Izvestia that the AFU's adventure with the invasion of the Kursk region accelerated Ukraine's defeat. Both in the country itself, preparing the population for a loss through the media, and European leaders are beginning to realize this.

At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that an armored group of the Guards Airborne Assault Regiment of the Russian Army defeated the AFU's manpower in the border area of the Kursk region. The Russian fighters advanced to the combat mission on BMD-4M paratrooper combat vehicles and worked on the enemy with fragmentation-fugitive ammunition in short bursts from guns from closed positions.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6 last year. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
