More than 270 birds affected by the oil spill in the Kerch Strait have been rescued in Bolshaya Yalta. Feathered birds are accepted in the zoo "Fairy Tale" and on Krasnye Partizan Street, 26, said the head of the city Yanina Pavlenko in her social networks.

The work in the reception points is brought to automatism. Volunteers assign each bird a number, indicate the place of capture and describe its condition. After the bird is cleaned, its beak is cleaned and its eyes are washed.

Then the bird goes to a veterinarian for diagnosis, who determines the degree of contamination and gives a sorbent. The affected is treated with starch so that it absorbs the fuel oil, washed, dried and observed overnight. The next morning the feathered is sent to the park "Taigan" for a 30-day quarantine.

As SevastopolMedia IA notes, the affected birds should not be immediately poisoned, as washing removes the fat layer from the feathers, which protects them from hypothermia and repels water.

The tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 crashed during a severe storm in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. As a result of the accident, about 40% of fuel oil leaked out of them.

Two days later, by the morning of December 17, the oil products reached the shores of Anapa and Temryuksky district, and then Crimea. On December 26, a federal emergency was declared. On January 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the fuel oil spill in the Black Sea one of the most serious environmental challenges for the country in recent years.
