A military analyst called the attack on the Kursk region one of the reasons for the AFU's failures

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) adventurous attack on Kursk Region was one of the factors that caused their further failures. Military analyst and political analyst Vadym Mingalev shared this opinion with Izvestiya on January 10.

The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expires in May 2024, said that the Kursk operation was one of the AFU's successes. Commenting on this, Ukrainian parliamentarian Artem Dmytruk noted in his Telegram channel that the AFU had never lost more than during the period of this operation.

"The Kursk adventure actually accelerated the final defeat of Ukraine, because it was in the Kursk direction that the best combat units from all parts of the front from Kherson to Zaporozhye were withdrawn. In addition, it was under Kursk that the best NATO mercenaries fought. And it was the Kursk adventure that led the Ukrainian army to disaster. <...> And this opinion is already beginning to hover in the media of Ukraine itself, the people of Ukraine are being prepared for defeat," Mingalev emphasized.

He explained that the attack on the Kursk region, according to Kiev's plans, should have been accompanied by the seizure of the Kurchatov nuclear power plant, but this did not happen - to demonstrate "successes" did not work. As a result, the interlocutor noted, the Kursk operation turned out to be a general failure of the AFU, which is noticed not only in Ukraine, but also in the West. This is also evidenced by the statement of the head of the Polish Defense Ministry, Vladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysz, who after the meeting on the Ukrainian issue in the Ramstein format stated about the decadent mood of its participants, the expert noted.

All European leaders realize that Ukraine has lost, and one of the reasons for the acceleration of the actual defeat of the AFU is the Kursk adventure. Therefore, naturally, the opinion is beginning to form that Ukraine is ultimately defeated.

The day before, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the AFU had lost up to 190 soldiers in the Kursk direction. In addition, the Ukrainian army lost an infantry fighting vehicle, an armored personnel carrier, two armored fighting vehicles, five vehicles, an artillery gun, four mortars, an electronic warfare station and an ammunition depot.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6 last year. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
