There are disagreements among Western countries on further assistance to Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this at a briefing on January 10.

"We see that there are growing contradictions there, and we see that there are many disagreements on the prospects <...> of providing further assistance, effectiveness and so on," he said.

At the same time, according to Peskov, Western countries continue to declare their political commitment and intention to support Ukraine. In addition, he emphasized that under the current leadership, the US is taking all necessary steps to continue the conflict with Russia, while European states are following this strategy.

Earlier, on December 26, 2024, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev, in a conversation with Izvestia, pointed to the fatigue of US citizens from financing the Kiev regime. At the same time, he did not rule out that Washington's assistance to Kiev may end with the departure of the country's current president, Joe Biden.

On December 13, 2024, it became known that Biden approved a package of assistance to Ukraine for $988 million. The coordinator for strategic communications in the White House National Security Council John Kirby noted that the United States will provide additional military support to Kiev "until the end of the term" of the Biden administration.

Prior to that, on December 8, 2024, Trump said that Washington would likely reduce military aid to Ukraine after the change of the US administration. The US president-elect added that Kiev should not expect military assistance in the previous volume after his inauguration.

On 26 November, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, said that the West is deliberately destabilizing the situation in the world, realizing the loss of its former power. According to him, the increasingly complicated international situation forces the special services of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States to work more intensively and effectively. Western countries, according to Naryshkin, "will act in their own manner" and try to create chaos on the territory of the CIS countries.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
