Changes in the traffic rules that prohibit drivers from using smartphones and tablets behind the wheel will not come into force from March 2025. Alexander Volkov, spokesman for the Russian Transport Ministry, told Izvestia on January 10.

"There is no such date. There are no plans for such a change," Volkov noted.

Last September, the Ministry of Transport proposed to prohibit drivers from using behind the wheel items that distract attention from the road. They included tablets, phones and multimedia devices. At the same time, there were no plans to increase the amount of fines.

Earlier, on December 26, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law to increase fines for a number of traffic violations. The law also introduces punishment for repeated driving without a MTPL policy. The fine for this violation will be from 3 thousand to 5 thousand rubles.
