U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced the preparation of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Republican said this on January 9 at his residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida) before a meeting with governors.

"He wants a meeting, and we will organize it... President Putin wants a meeting, he has stated this even publicly. We have to end this conflict," Trump told reporters.

In addition, the American leader-elect noted that he plans to hold all meetings after his inauguration on January 20. Trump was asked a question about talking with Chinese President Xi Jinping, to which the Republican responded that this will still have to be determined.

Earlier, on January 7, the US president-elect expressed confidence in Russian leader Vladimir Putin's desire to hold talks with him on Ukraine.

On that day, Trump called President Joe Biden 's "fiasco" the cause of the conflict in Ukraine. The Republican assured that his team knows how to act in the context of this crisis.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, told reporters on December 26 that Russia intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, not just freeze it.

Trump's team said on December 13 that it was holding talks with Ukrainian officials and the current White House administration on resolving the conflict. Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, then also allowed for the end of this crisis in the coming months.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
