Japan imposed sanctions against 11 individuals and 29 entities from Russia

Japan has imposed sanctions against 11 individuals and 29 legal entities registered in Russia. Three Russian banks are also under sanctions. This is stated in a press release on the official website of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan on Friday, January 10.

"Such measures as freezing the assets of related parties in Russia and other countries. Russian related parties (11 individuals, 29 organizations) and certain banks (three organizations), as well as related parties from countries and regions other than Russia and Belarus (one individual)," the release said.

An export ban was also imposed on 22 Russian organizations.

The Russian banks, against which sanctions were imposed are CMRBank, RFK Bank and Timer Bank.

In addition, the restrictions affected NPO Mashinostroyeniya and Aleksinsky Chemical Combine. The only individual marked by the new sanctions was Alrosa CEO Pavel Marinychev. The company specializes in mining in Yakutia.

Earlier, on January 9, Reuters reported that the current U.S. President Joe Biden intends to announce a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. It was noted that Biden plans to introduce new sanctions against the Russian economy to strengthen the position of Ukraine before the entry into office of the elected American leader Donald Trump.

Before that, on January 7, the US Justice Department said that US authorities seized two properties in Miami belonging to Viktor Perevalov, an allegedly Russian businessman on the sanctions list in 2018.

Western countries have tightened sanctions pressure on Russia in connection with the special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to launch it was announced on February 24, 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
