Karbyshev's sappers told about training in near-frontline conditions

On January 10, sappers of the Karbyshev battalion told Izvestia about performing tasks in areas that are as close as possible to an active combat zone.
The soldiers train with the most realistic threats in the sky, on their flanks and under their feet. The only significant difference is that explosive devices and artillery shells don't cause shrapnel damage.
"Now the most spectacular part of the training is underway. And despite the fact that these are not real shells, it has a very strong effect on the ears," said Izvestia correspondent Dmitry Zimenkin.
One of the toughest challenges is the Donbass soil, which has been thawed by melt water and which severely hampers mobility. The passageways for the assault team are mined in all sorts of ways.
"The army is now moving forward, moving actively and without the work of sappers it is impossible. Because the sapper is the person who always goes first. Whether it is an assault, or making a passage for equipment, the sapper always comes first and tries to ensure the safest possible advancement of our troops," said an instructor of the separate engineer-sapper battalion named after Karbyshev of the volunteer corps of the Southern group of troops with the call sign Griva.
Not only their lives, but also the fates of many comrades and the success of combat missions depend on the work of sappers.
Earlier, on December 20, 2024, sappers told about demining the territory of the liberated Ukrainsk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). It is specified that sappers had to neutralize various types of mines of both Soviet design and foreign production, as well as unexploded elements of cluster munitions.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
