Lithuanian President Ginatas Nauseda on January 9 expressed his claim to the Kaliningrad region.

"Russia's decision to rename the museum dedicated to Kristijonas Donelaitis, a classic of Lithuanian literature, is yet another unacceptable attempt to rewrite history," he wrote on his X (former Twitter) page.

The president declared that despite the complete disappearance of the original inhabitants of Lithuania Minor, the last traces of Lithuanian culture in the city must be preserved.

"No matter how hard Russia tries, Karaliaučius will never become Kaliningrad!" - he concluded.

Earlier, on December 25, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia has stated pre-trial claims to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia because of discrimination against Russians in these countries. According to her, all available international judicial mechanisms will be used against the states that discriminate on their territories.

Before that, on December 22, the residents of Lithuania expressed dissatisfaction with the "abolition" of Tchaikovsky in the country. Two years ago, Lithuania, which has supported Kiev in its conflict with Moscow, abandoned traditional productions of The Nutcracker during the Christmas season, declaring a so-called mental quarantine from Russian culture.

In November 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the policy of "canceling Russia" was racist and anti-cultural. The head of state emphasized that art still knows no borders despite sanctions and any other bans. Shortly after that, the Russian leader said that the Russian Federation had faced Russophobia in the Baltics long before the start of a special military operation to defend Donbas.
