About 20 people have been arrested for looting during the wildfires in Los Angeles County. This was reported by CNN on January 9.

The TV channel informed that Los Angeles County Supervisor Katherine Barger called the looters "opportunists."

"I will not stand by and allow an already traumatic experience to be made worse," she said at a press conference.

For his part, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said their preliminary estimate was that a total of 20 people had been arrested, adding that the figure was unconfirmed.

Multiple wildfires in Los Angeles were reported the day before. The extinguishing continues, with strong winds fueling the fire and rescue crews lacking water. In connection with the fires, the current US President Joe Biden declared a major disaster regime in the state of California.

Emergency services have urged residents to prepare to evacuate. Los Angeles resident Don Reiman told Izvestia that in the neighborhood where he lives, managed to defend only his house, and the rest of the buildings burned to the ground.

In addition, the fire destroyed the luxury mansions of Hollywood actors and celebrities, including Anthony Hopkins, Adam Brody, Anna Faris, Eugene Levy, John Goodman, Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton. Many of these homes were worth millions of dollars.
