US President-elect Donald Trump is likely to succeed in quickly resolving the armed conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on January 9 by American entrepreneur Ilon Musk during an interview with the head of Germany's far-right AdG party, Alice Weidel, on the X network (formerly Twitter).

"I think President Trump will resolve this conflict very quickly. <...> The longer it goes on, the weaker Ukraine becomes in relation to Russia," he said.

In turn, Weidel stressed that this development would be favorable for Europe, which has no strategy to end the armed conflict.

"It would be great because many people are alarmed. And they are alarmed for a very good reason. Because this conflict has the potential for a big escalation, up to and including a nuclear exchange. And here the European governments don't have the measure <...> to put an end to it. They don't have the military might," she commented.

On the same day, it was reported that Trump gave an ultimatum to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20, 2024) on the conflict with Russia. He gave the Ukrainian leader six months to complete it.

Before that, on January 8, a US Defense Department spokesman said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had no plans to give up in the Ukrainian conflict. He also noted that in this regard, Washington is focused on providing Ukraine with the necessary funds for combat operations.

On January 7, Donald Trump expressed confidence in the desire of the Russian leader to hold talks with him on Ukraine. Answering a question about a possible meeting with Putin, the politician said that he did not intend to meet with him before the inauguration.

Prior to that, on December 27, 2024, it was reported that Trump intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, but probably believes that this is possible if Kiev is strong.

Trump's team said on Dec. 13 that it was discussing ending the Ukraine conflict with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg allowed the end of this crisis in the coming months.

In addition, on December 3, Kellogg's plan for a Ukrainian settlement was published. It proposes to end the political isolation of the Russian Federation and retain the liberated territories. In addition, Trump's special envoy proposed to postpone Ukraine's accession to NATO for a long time. Nevertheless, Kellogg's plan includes continuing military assistance to Kiev and providing it with security guarantees.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
