A U.S. reconnaissance plane made an observation flight in Finnish airspace near the border with Russia. This was reported by the Yle TV channel on January 9.

"A Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force flew in Finnish airspace. For a couple of hours it was traveling between the cities of Kouvola and Joensuu along the eastern border," the TV channel informed.

It is specified that the airplane took off from the Waddington airbase in Great Britain and flew through the airspace of Denmark and Sweden to the Gulf of Finland.

The TV channel also specified that the US Air Force's RC-135W Rivet Joint is a reconnaissance aircraft capable of detecting and localizing various radio systems, as well as analyzing communications.

"Recently, the US signal reconnaissance aircraft has been regularly conducting surveillance flights not only over the Baltic Sea, but also over the Black Sea and near the border with Belarus," Yle added.

Earlier, on July 21, 2024, Russian MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighter jets were put into the air to prevent US Air Force B-52H bombers from violating the state border over the waters of the Barents Sea. As a result, the American planes performed a U-turn.
