The Ukrainian conflict under the rule of US President-elect Donald Trump will be resolved by the end of April. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said on January 9.

"There's a bit of a retreat from this sense that somehow a deal will be reached on January 21, I think that's now unlikely. And we're hearing that actually the timetable has moved a little bit towards Easter," Lammy said, he was quoted as saying by British newspaper The Guardian.

The minister pointed out that Trump had already moved away from his campaign promise to end the Ukrainian conflict the day after his inauguration.

He also reminded that the President-elect is not yet a sitting American President, reports "Gazeta.Ru".

On the eve, January 8, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said that the US President-elect wants to end the Ukrainian conflict "as soon as possible." Kellogg added that Trump will try to preserve Ukraine's sovereignty and resolve the crisis in a way that he believes is fair.

On the same day, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a press conference following talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris that the president-elect is committed to securing the best possible deal for Ukraine to resolve the conflict diplomatically. Blinken indicated that only the Trump administration will decide what role the US will play in a future agreement.

Trump, in turn, on January 7 at a press conference at his residence in Mar-a-Lago emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine was a consequence of the "fiasco" of current US President Joe Biden and this crisis might not have happened at all if the American leader had other personal qualities. According to the president-elect, Biden's actions have led to the risk of serious additional escalation in Ukraine, and the conflict itself is a disaster in which people are constantly dying.

Trump's team said on December 13, 2024, that it was discussing with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials to end the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg allowed the end of this crisis in the coming months.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
