Natural gas supplies to Bulgaria from Azerbaijan were suspended on January 7 due to technical reasons. This was reported by the press service of energy company Bulgargaz on Thursday, January 9.

"For technical reasons, one of Bulgargaz's suppliers EAD suspended natural gas supplies from January 7. Supplies are expected to be restored from January 11. The notification of the supplier under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan was received on January 6," reads the message on the website.

It is specified that despite the problems with gas supplies, Bulgargaz provided substitute volumes thanks to the agreement with Turkish company BOTAS. This allowed to avoid additional costs and maintain stability in the gas market.

Earlier, on December 30, 2024, Bulgarian Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said that the republic is ready to help Moldova with gas supplies. He recalled that the countries signed an agreement on crisis response.
