Media reported on former British Prime Minister Truss' intention to sue Starmer

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss may sue her current colleague Keir Starmer for defamation of her political legacy. This was reported by Politico on January 9.
The former prime minister's lawyers sent a letter to Starmer's representatives demanding that they stop spreading "defamatory" statements that Truss "brought down" the UK economy. They said the British prime minister's statements had "damaged" the reputation of their client, who consequently failed to win the general election in the South West Norfolk constituency last year. In doing so, Truss became the first Prime Minister since 1935 to lose her seat in Parliament.
According to the publication, the letter also cited three public speeches made by Starmer during his election campaign where he claimed that Truss had "brought down" the British economy. However, lawyers disagreed with this assertion, noting that economically poor performance, such as high unemployment, lack of GDP growth and an appreciation in the value of sterling, cannot be characterized as an "economic collapse."
Liz Truss, for her part, called on Starmer to retract "defamatory" statements and expressed hope that the conflict could be resolved. However, representatives of the current British prime minister said that he has no plans to abandon his position and soften his statements.
On the same day, American entrepreneur and billionaire Ilon Musk discussed with his associates the possibility of removing Starmer from his post before the next parliamentary elections. Musk has recently become interested in British politics and has increasingly criticized Starmer's government.
Before that, on January 7, Ilon Musk called Starmer evil. He made such a statement against the backdrop of accusations against the UK authorities of covering up the crimes of gangs that were involved in mass rapes of underage girls.
On December 18, 2024, it was reported that 27% of the crown subjects are satisfied with the performance of the cabinet chief, while 61% express dissatisfaction with Starmer. His ratings are considered the weakest of any prime minister since the late 1970s. This is due to serious economic problems in the United Kingdom, which have not yet been solved under the new government.
In addition, on November 18, farmers from Wales held a mass protest against the policy of the British Prime Minister, threatening their business and existence. The cause of discontent was a new 20% tax on inheritance of agricultural land worth more than £1 million, which was announced by the Starmer government after coming to power.
