Five cases of measles have been confirmed in St. Petersburg since the beginning of 2025. This is reported by the TV channel "78" with reference to the head of the epidemiological supervision department of the Rospotrebnadzor administration Irina Kataeva.

More than half of the sick came from other territories. During the incubation period citizens stayed outside St. Petersburg.

Kataeva noted that the city has a vaccine against measles.

The disease is characterized by high contagiousness. The virus causes high fever, provokes inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract. A rash appears on the skin.

Doctors note that in adults, measles can cause severe complications. In particular, the diseased develop pneumonia, encephalitis, hepatitis and other pathologies.
