Starovoit announced a 50% discount for children on all Russian airlines
From January 10, all Russian airlines will offer a 50% discount for children under 12 years old. This was announced by Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit on January 9.
"Already from January 1 of this year, 23 major Russian airlines - and they carry more than 95% of all passengers - began to provide a 50% discount for children under 12 years old on all domestic routes within the framework of all existing fares except business class," he said.
According to Starovoit, the main air carriers implemented the sale of tickets with a 50% discount for children at the end of December 2024. Currently, more than 260 thousand minors have been transported.
In addition, the Minister of Transport drew attention to the fact that more than 870 thousand tickets for air travel until the end of January have been sold. He also reminded that the youngest passengers - children under two years old - have a special advantage: they can travel free of charge on domestic routes, they are given a 90% discount on international flights when buying tickets without a separate seat.
As for the travel of families with children, they will be provided with affordable air travel under three subsidy programs that are fully funded, Starovoit concluded.
Earlier, on December 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a combined direct line and press conference demanded that airlines stop the practice of denying ticket benefits by manipulating fares. According to the legislation, airlines must provide families with children a benefit of 50% of the standard fare.
Before that, on December 16, it was reported that from January 1 to July 1, 2025 in the Russian Federation will begin pilot sale of tickets via the Internet for some categories of citizens participating in the program of preferential air travel. It was specified that the participants of the experiment can be young people under the age of 23 years, pensioners, disabled people and large families, who now have to go to ticket offices to buy an air ticket at a special fare.
