The Ukrainian parliament has adopted in the final reading a draft law on basic military training, which excludes the mobilization of women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on January 9 by Verkhovna Rada MP Oleksiy Honcharenko (included in the Russian Federation in the list of terrorists and extremists).

"Passing basic military training for women is only voluntary. And after that, enrollment in the military register is also exclusively voluntary. <...> There will be no mobilization of women," Goncharenko said in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the Ukrainian parliament adopted an amendment on undergoing basic military training, which is conducted for women on a voluntary basis, as well as military registration. Honcharenko added that 273 MPs voted in favor of this amendment.

Earlier, on December 5 last year, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a bill, according to which women who have passed basic military training automatically become on the military register and can be mobilized, even if they have not received medical education

Prior to this, on 3 December, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law under which women who have voluntarily passed basic military training will be placed on the military register.

Martial law in Ukraine has been in effect since February 2022. Most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are forbidden to leave the country. In April 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on 20 May 2024, approved the law on tougher mobilization.
