Russia has "some advantages" in the conflict in Ukraine. This statement was made by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on January 9.

"It (Russia. - Ed.) has some advantages," Austin said in the German town of Ramstein before a meeting of the contact group on Ukraine to coordinate arms deliveries. His words are quoted by Bloomberg.

At the same time, the Pentagon chief said that in this case Russia does not dominate completely. He added that Ukraine continues to build up its capabilities.

Earlier, on January 7, The Washington Post said that Ukraine is unlikely to survive another year of hostilities with Russia. The author of the material expressed the opinion that Kiev is losing territories and troops, and the ability of Ukraine to exist as a sovereign state will determine the next few weeks.

Before that, on December 12, 2024, a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Dubinsky, who is in the Ukrainian detention center on suspicion of state treason, said that Ukraine has already lost in the conflict, Donbass is actually lost for it. He explained that the US Democratic Party, led by current President Joe Biden, continues to sponsor Ukraine under the guise of forming a strong negotiating position, although they actually seek to prolong the conflict for another two years.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
