Six people were killed and dozens injured in a stampede at the Lord Venkateshwara Swami temple in the Indian city of Tirupati. This was reported by the Hindustan Times on January 9.

"Six pilgrims died and more than 40 were injured in the crush in Tirupati," the paper said.

The devotees had gathered at the temple as part of the 10-day annual festival. an eyewitness shared that the crush started when police officials opened the gate to distribute tokens near the ticket counter. Out of the 20 members of the eyewitness' family, six people were injured.

It is noted that local authorities are monitoring the situation.

Earlier, on January 1, in a suburb of the Qatari capital Lusail, several dozen people were injured in a crush at the entrance to the metro station after the end of New Year's celebrations. The incident occurred as a result of people trying to catch public transportation before the closing time, as the events ended at 01:00, and the work of the subway on New Year's Eve extended until 02:00.
