The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts has postponed the announcement of Oscar nominees from January 17 to January 19 due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, California. Deadline reported on January 8.

"We offer our deepest condolences to those affected by the devastating fires in California. Many members of the academy and our colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area. Our thoughts are with you... The announcement of Oscar nominees will be postponed from January 17 to January 19," said American Academy of Motion Picture Arts Director Bill Kramer.

It is reported that due to the spread of the fire in the Palisades several premieres were canceled and temporarily suspended production of television shows.

Earlier in the day it became known that in Los Angeles (California) rescue crews, which are fighting numerous forest fires, lack of water.

Before that, the current President of the United States Joe Biden declared a major disaster regime in the state of California in connection with forest fires.

Earlier, January 7, emergency services of Los Angeles urged residents to be ready to evacuate because of raging wildfires in the state. NBC News reported that the fire started in the Eaton Canyon neighborhood. Strong winds fueled the fire.

At the same time in Los Angeles declared a state of emergency because of the fire situation. It was reported that 27 thousand residents of Pacific Palisades are called for forced evacuation.

In addition, in the evacuation zone was the residence of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who said she sympathized with all her heart to those affected by the fire. At the same time, CNN reported that the flames destroyed 2.9 thousand acres (more than 1,173 hectares) of land.
