A serviceman told about the sweeping of high-rise buildings in Kurakhovo from the AFU

The Ukrainian Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) cleared multi-storey buildings in Kurakhove with small assault groups of five people each. This was reported on January 9 by the commander of the assault group of the 110th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Army of the Southern Group of Forces under the call sign Boxer.

"When already in large units simply can not approach, we go into the city or this or that place, we storm in small groups. There were five people in my group. At the end there were only three left," he told RIA Novosti.

Boxer stormed the Yuzhny microdistrict, which consists of 20 high-rise buildings that were cleared from the AFU by two groups.

"When we broke into the entrance, we were met with a barrage of fire. The fight lasted, a fleeting fight, for about 30 minutes. But it was grenades flying, bullets whistling. In a confined space it was like some kind of hell in miniature," he shared.

According to Boxer, during the mop-up the commander was left alone with his comrade, the others were wounded and concussed, while the AFU had three fighters who could shoot back and throw grenades.

However, despite the VSU's numerical advantage, the Russian attackers captured the high-rise buildings.

"Even if I was left alone, I would still continue to perform my assigned task, there was no fear, there was nothing but some rage, soldier some honor, and I went forward, and the enemy was broken and requested surrender, although I did not offer him to surrender, I wanted to destroy him," concluded Boxer.

Earlier, on January 8, the Defense Ministry reported the capture of 18 AFU fighters in the area of Kurakhovo in the DNR. In addition, the Russian army in this direction repelled three counterattacks of the AFU assault brigades, destroyed a tank, an infantry fighting vehicle, an M113 armored personnel carrier, seven pickup trucks, two artillery pieces and an ammunition depot.

On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that tankers of the Southern Group of Forces, in cooperation with a reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV),hit a camouflaged AFU gun in the Chasovoyarsk direction.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
