- A team of 750 firefighters continues to extinguish the Eaton Canyon Fire in California

Pasadena Fire Chief Chad Augustine said 750 firefighters are battling the Eaton Canyon Fire in Pasadena, California. The New York Times (NYT) reported on January 8.
"Additional forces are on the way from across California and Arizona. As of 10 a.m., aircraft have completed water drops to limit the spread of the fire," Augustine said.
Favorable conditions over the next few days should allow firefighters to make good progress, he said.
Augustine added that the fire has burned more than 10,600 acres (42.8 square kilometers) and none of the fires have been extinguished. Approximately 200 to 500 structures were damaged by the fire or burned to the ground.
Earlier in the day, the Pacific Palisades fire on the Los Angeles coast exceeded 64.7 square kilometers. CNN reported that just half an hour before the fire area was 47.7 square kilometers.
Before that, on January 7, emergency services in Los Angeles urged residents to be ready to evacuate because of raging wildfires in the state. NBC News television channel reported that the fire began in the neighborhood of Eaton Canyon. Strong winds are fueling the fire.
On the same day in Los Angeles declared a state of emergency because of the fire situation. It was reported that 27 thousand residents of Pacific Palisades are called for forced evacuation.
In addition, in the evacuation zone was the residence of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who said she sympathized with all her heart to those affected by the fire. At the same time, CNN reported that the flames destroyed 2.9 thousand acres (more than 1,173 hectares) of land.
