Damage from the Los Angeles wildfires could exceed $50 billion, the Associated Press (AP) reported Jan. 8.

"According to preliminary estimates of AccuWeather, the damage and economic losses from the fires amounted from $52 billion to $57 billion," the agency informed.

It is specified that as a result of wildfires at least five people were killed and more than 1 thousand structures were destroyed.

According to Governor Gavin Newsom, the state involved more than 1.4 thousand firefighters to fight the fires.

Earlier, on January 7, emergency services of Los Angeles urged residents to be ready to evacuate because of raging wildfires in the state. NBC News reported that the fire started in the Eaton Canyon neighborhood. Strong winds are fueling the fire.

On the same day in Los Angeles declared a state of emergency because of the fire situation. It was reported that 27 thousand residents of Pacific Palisades are called for forced evacuation.

In addition, in the evacuation zone was the residence of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who said she sympathized with all her heart to those affected by the fire. At the same time, CNN reported that the flames destroyed 2.9 thousand acres (more than 1,173 hectares) of land.
