An armed man was apprehended in Washington, D.C., trying to enter the Capitol

A man who tried to sneak a machete into the Capitol Visitors Center (CVC) has been arrested. This is reported on January 8 on the page in the network X (former Twitter) of the U.S. Capitol Police.
It is specified that during a security check at the north doors of the CVC, officers on an X-ray machine found a machete and three knives in the man's bag.
"The security check was temporarily halted on the north side of the CVC while we investigated," the agency's press office informed.
Capitol Police said the man was arrested on multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon.
Earlier on Jan. 1, a truck struck a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, then the driver got out and started shooting. Law enforcement returned fire and eliminated him. According to the latest reports, at least 10 people were killed and 35 others were injured.
The FBI specified that two police officers were wounded in the shooting, and explosive devices were found at the scene of the tragedy. It is preliminarily established that most of the victims are local residents. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russians, tentatively, were not injured in the incident in New Orleans.
