Guards Sergeant Vladimir Averin as part of a unit of attack aircraft carried out tasks to provide medical assistance to wounded Russian servicemen. On Thursday, January 9, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted to conduct a counter-offensive against the positions of Russian units. During the fighting, Averin, risking his life under incessant enemy fire, provided first aid to 20 wounded servicemen of the Russian army. When the battle was over, Averin organized the evacuation of the wounded to a safe place for further treatment.

The Russian Defense Ministry also noted the prompt and competent actions of Private Vladimir Bordyug, a drone operator. His group was tasked with storming the fortified strongholds of the AFU.

The group set out on the mission, but came under fire from the enemy, who had set up an ambush. The AFU machine-gun formation was placed on an elevated position and was well fortified. Bordyug skillfully assessed the situation and launched an attack drone towards the enemy. The AFU formation was successfully eliminated, and the Russian assault group continued to fulfill its combat mission.

Earlier, on January 7, it was reported that Lieutenant Ilya Solovyev, as part of the Msta-B howitzer crew, provided artillery support to Russian servicemen during the assault on an AFU stronghold and destroyed enemy fortifications.

Prior to that, on January 6, the Russian Defense Ministry told how Sergeant Ivan Kornilovskikh, commander of an automatic grenade launcher, performed the task of providing fire support to an assault group on the line of contact. Despite being wounded, Sergeant Kornilovskikh was able to destroy two groups of militants with shots from an automatic grenade launcher, forcing the enemy to abandon their positions.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
