- The ambassador announced the start of payments with "Mir" cards in Iran in the first half of the year

In the first half of 2025, it is planned to finalize the process, as a result of which cardholders of the Russian payment system "Mir" will be able to use them on the territory of Iran. This was announced by Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali in an interview with IRNA on January 8.
He specified that it will be possible within the framework of realization of the agreement between Moscow and Tehran on mutual integration of payment systems. Its first stage includes the creation of the possibility to withdraw rubles from Iranian bank cards.
"According to the schedule, we will move to the second stage, in which Russian citizens will be able to make purchases with their bank cards in Iran, in the first half of 2025," Jalali said.
The third stage of the agreement implies that cards of Iranian payment system Shetab will be accepted for payment in Russia.
The ambassador pointed out that in 2025 Moscow and Tehran will solve many issues related to joint work in the monetary and financial sphere. Jalali drew attention to the successes in the negotiations between the central banks of the two countries and expressed hope that many cooperation efforts will bear fruit this year.
Earlier, on December 18, 2024, in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, the first ATM that accepts Russian Mir cards became operational, and Russian embassy staff immediately used the machine, withdrawing money.
Prior to that, on December 16, Laureano Ortega, special representative of the Nicaraguan president for the development of relations with Russia, told Izvestia that in 2025 the country will be able to withdraw money from Mir cards not only in Managua, but also in other large cities.
