Media reported on the US allocation of a new $500m military aid package to Ukraine

TheUnited States will allocate a new $500 million military aid package to Ukraine, the Associated Press (AP) reported on January 8, citing sources.

"The United States intends to provide Ukraine with an additional $500 million in weapons quickly withdrawn from existing stockpiles," the material said.

It is specified that the administration of US President Joe Biden is working to strengthen Kiev's negotiating position before the entry into office of head of state Donald Trump, who won the election in November 2024.

The new package is expected to be announced during United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's latest trip to meet with a contact group to help Ukraine. It will take place on Thursday, January 9, in Germany.

Earlier, on December 26, 2024, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev, in a conversation with Izvestia, pointed to the fatigue of US citizens from financing the Kiev regime. At the same time, he did not rule out that Washington's assistance to Kiev might end with the departure of the country's current president, Joe Biden.

On December 13, it became known that Biden approved a package of assistance to Ukraine for $ 988 million. The coordinator for strategic communications in the White House National Security Council John Kirby noted that the United States will provide additional military support to Kiev "until the end of the term" of the Biden administration.

Prior to that, on December 8, Trump said that Washington was likely to reduce military aid to Ukraine after the change of the US administration. The US president-elect added that after his inauguration, Kiev should not expect military assistance in the previous volume.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
