CNN didn't rule out Trump's imposition of an economic emergency over tariffs on imported goods

US President-elect Donald Trump may introduce a state of emergency (state of emergency) in the country to protect the economy. This was reported by CNN on January 8, citing sources familiar with the situation.

"Trump is considering declaring a state of emergency in the country's economy to provide legal justification for imposing a large number of universal duties on allies and adversaries," the material said.

According to one of the sources, the discussion of this issue has already taken place.

It is noted that during his second term in office, Trump seeks to restore the global trade balance. The declaration will allow him to develop a new tariff program in accordance with the law on international emergency economic powers, as it allows unilateral management of imports during the emergency.

Another source noted that Trump has "sympathy" for the act because of the granting of broad authority over the tariff imposition process. That said, there are no strict requirements for the reasoning behind their imposition.

On the same day, the US President-elect threatened the European Union (EU) with increased import duties if the association does not increase purchases of American energy resources. If the EU does not increase purchases, "tariffs on the full program are waiting for it," the president-elect threatened.
