The Russian medium-range missile system "Oreshnik" has exposed Britain's vulnerability to ballistic missiles. This was reported by Military Watch Magazine (MWM) on January 7.

The publication cited the results of a study of the strategic defense of the kingdom by an independent group commissioned by the British government. According to them, such defense in the country is at an insufficient level. In addition, the researchers noted that Russia, China and Iran are rapidly developing their hypersonic weapons, creating missiles capable of crossing continents at the speed of sound.

MWM pointed out that the use of the Nutshell in Ukraine demonstrated the UK's vulnerability to such weapons.

Earlier, InfoBRICS reported on December 28, 2024, that the Nutshell system has become the most powerful conventional weapon in the world. The speed and maneuverability of these weapons contributes to this. In addition, the Oreshnik missile is virtually impossible to intercept.

Former Russian Ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko pointed out on December 27 that the Oreshnik showed an asymmetry in favor of the Russian Federation in a hypothetical armed conflict with the West. This missile system, according to the diplomat, would be an effective deterrent.

During the "Results of the Year" on December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the enemy has no chance of shooting down the Oreshnik missiles, contrary to the assumptions of some Western experts. Later, on December 22, the head of state called the creation of this system a historic event in the rocket and space field.

Putin announced the live test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, on Nov. 21. The step was taken in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine. The head of state then clarified that Russia would continue testing and that a decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been made.
