Falcon Mountains: the main cultural events over the New Year holidays
The cultural life during the long January holidays of the coming 2025 year was marked by several notable events. Russian actor Yura Borisov competed for a statuette at the American film awards "Golden Globe" - he was nominated for his supporting role in "Anora". Meanwhile, in Russia, cinemas in theaters worked up the box office. Preliminarily, they have about 6 billion rubles on their books. Most of this amount - the collections of the films "The Wizard of Emerald City" and "Finist. The First Bogatyr." And the young soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra collected a million views during the holidays. Musician Ivan Kokorin unexpectedly became a star of "The Nutcracker" in social networks thanks to his expressive manner of playing the tambourine and castanets. More - in the review of "Izvestia".
"Golden Globe" and Yura Borisov
For the first time in history in the category "Best Supporting Actor" was a Russian artist Yura Borisov - for his role in the movie "Anora", which won the Palme d'Or.
It was clear that the chances of Borisov to get and award are also equal to zero. Among his rivals in the nomination were Edward Norton, Denzel Washington, Guy Pearce, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin. But let's not forget that "Anora" had no chance at Cannes either, because the competition included pictures that were vastly superior to it on their own merits. But in the end, it was "Anora" won, and this gave hope, especially since after Cannes, the movie very successfully participated in various awards and received prizes.
In the end, Culkin received a Globe, and in general, "Anora" was left without prizes. But Yura Borisov and Mark Eidelstein walked the red carpet, and Borisov was the first to be greeted, for example, by Angelina Jolie. And then they sat in a small hall side by side with all the legends of American cinema, and all the cinephiles of Russia at that moment avidly watched the broadcast, rooting for Borisov. Even though he was left without a statuette, but the very getting there was such a victory, which does not need golden statuettes already - let's forgive ourselves this little coquetry. And we'll wait for the Oscar nominees to be announced.
"Finist", "The Wizard of Emerald City" and other fairy tales
Family cinema in the New Year vacations, as expected, became the center of attraction for millions of Russians. It is too early to summarize the results, especially since the EAIS system, the main open source of film distribution statistics, collapsed at the beginning of the year - perhaps from so much information about viewers and sessions. More or less complete picture will be only by the evening of January 9. But we can already say that since January 1 (that is, not counting the holidays before that), the total Russian box office amounted to about 6 billion rubles.
Most of this amount - the collections of the films "The Wizard of Emerald City" and "Finist. The First Great Knight." "The Wizard" had higher collections, because it had significantly more screenings and advertising than "Finist". Accordingly, RUB 2.5 billion versus RUB 1.8 billion. But if we look at the most important criterion for the market, the number of screenings per session, it turns out that the films have roughly the same: RUB 28,000 for "The Wizard" and RUB 25,000 for "Finist".
With a large gap from the leaders are three more fairy tales: "Yolki 11", "Domovenok Kuzya" and "Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf 6", none of them reached 0.5 billion rubles during the vacations, however, they were released earlier. If you look at the absolute collections of paintings, "Spruce 11" has already earned a billion and is approaching the result of the most successful part of the franchise, the third. "Kuzya" is also quietly moving towards a billion, he has 860 million rubles.
Artist of the Bolshoi Theater became a star of social networks
Ballet fans on the holiday weekend rushed to the Bolshoi Theater, where they had the joy of seeing, perhaps, the main New Year's performance - "The Nutcracker". However, the focus of the audience's attention has unexpectedly shifted this season from the stage to the orchestra pit to the orchestra's young soloist.
The 30-year-old musician Ivan Kokorin, thanks to his expressive manner of playing the tambourine and castanets, not only drew the attention of the audience, but also became a star of "The Nutcracker" in social networks - there are dozens of videos shot by the audience and the artist himself during the performances, the number of views on some of them exceeded a million. Social network users are now joking that it is because of the young man, who is so on fire, that the prices for ballet are so high, that his playing the tambourine is the only "tambourine" that they are willing to tolerate, and girls are inviting the artist on dates.
True, according to Ivan, he has no time for a personal life now - the priority is work. However, in his busy schedule he found a window for an interview with Izvestia and exclusively performed a fragment from "The Nutcracker" in the studio.
