The European Commission (EC) should apply laws with maximum firmness to protect its interests of European citizens. This statement was made by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on France Inter radio, calling for regulation of the digital space amid statements by US billionaire Ilon Musk.

"We need to wake up. <...> Either the European Commission applies with maximum firmness the laws we gave ourselves to protect our public space, or not, and then it will have to agree to return to the EU member states, to return to France, the ability to do it," - quotes his words broadcaster.

As indicated in the material, Musk for several weeks "loudly interfered in the political life of Europe". In particular, in his social network X (former Twitter), the businessman multiplied positions in favor of the German far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) and against the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Labour MP Keir Starmer.

Earlier, on December 31, Musk published a post insulting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. On the same day, the billionaire expressed confidence in the victory of the party (AdG) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Musk suggested that the political force will win an impressive victory, as the AdG's approval level has reached record highs.

Later, on January 2, Musk said that new parliamentary elections should be held in the UK. Thus, he commented on the results of a poll on the unprecedented decline in support for the Labor government led by Starmer. After that, Musk called him evil and called on the US to free the citizens of the UK from the tyranny of Prime Minister Starmer's rule.
