Izvestiya correspondent Oleksandr Martemyanov, who was killed in a Ukrainian FPV drone strike, was a very energetic and restless journalist. This was stated by military cameraman Alexander Gritsenko on January 8.

"This was the most energetic of all those I met in my specialty. This man worked for three, he was everywhere at the same time. We could work off 1-2 firings, he would roll out 5-6. Restless was to the point of madness," - said Hrytsenko.

According to Hrytsenko, Martemyanov did not react to danger and always sought to extract as much material as possible so that the whole world could see what was happening in the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone.

"I had to dissuade him from many adventures. He was looking for ways to get into the thick of things," the cameraman emphasized.

Also an acquaintance of the journalist Nadezhda Chicherova said that Martemyanov was a unique person and always helped others.

"Such trips, which were not reportage, but as a help to people, psychological relief and just human participation, they were even more than reports. It was always the person, his emotions, and how he feels in this situation that came first. <...> There are no such guys anymore," Chicherova said.

On the same day, the funeral of the war correspondent took place in Donetsk. The farewell ceremony took place at the cemetery "Donetsk Sea". To say goodbye to Martemyanov came his family, friends and colleagues.

On the same day the journalist was posthumously awarded the Order of the Donetsk People's Republic. The award was presented by the Chairman of the People's Council of the DNR Konstantin Kuzmin to the parents of the deceased.

At the same time Konstantin Kuzmin said that Martemyanov was a real hero. He said that Martemyanov became an example and a symbol of the journalistic profession, always acting for the good of his country.

Alexander Martemyanov was killed on January 4 when a Ukrainian army drone hit a car on the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway. He died of his injuries. A criminal case was opened under Articles 105, 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder and attempted murder of two or more persons", "Intentional damage to property").

Martemyanov worked as a correspondent for Izvestia since 2014. In 2023, he was wounded during shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donetsk, but returned to work after his recovery. Martemyanov has been awarded the Medal for Bravery and the Badge of Honor "For Merit to the Donetsk People's Republic" of the III degree.
