The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked the port of Berdyansk with a guided missile. The strike did not affect the port's operability, it hit an empty oil product storage tank. This was stated by the Governor of Zaporizhzhya region Eugene Balitsky on January 8.

"The enemy made an attack by guided missile on the port of Berdyansk. There are no casualties," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Balitsky also noted that the hotbeds of fire resulting from the strike were eliminated. In addition, the governor emphasized that the purpose of the AFU was to provoke an environmental disaster in the Sea of Azov.

Earlier, on January 5, the AFU attacked a hospital and infrastructure facilities in Zaporizhzhya region. Later, a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was shot down over an electric substation in the same area. No one was injured as a result of the strikes.

Ukrainian militants are trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
