The Russian military has launched strikes on military airfields and the assembly and storage site for drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on Wednesday, January 8.
"The infrastructure of military airfields, the place of assembly and storage of unmanned aerial vehicles, accumulations of manpower and equipment of armed formations of the AFU and foreign mercenaries in 147 areas were hit," the statement said.
In addition, air defense means shot down six rockets of the US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launcher system and 105 drones of the aircraft type.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry reported that the artillery crew of the 2S5 Hyacinth-S self-propelled howitzer of the Center group of troops destroyed an AFU stronghold in the Krasnoarmeysk direction of the special operation. After accomplishing the combat task, the servicemen camouflaged the gun and promptly went into hiding.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
