Two members of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's party mistakenly passed off the Russian submarine "Varshavyanka" of Project 636 for a German-made submarine from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. This was reported by Bild on January 7.

It is specified that the candidate of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in the upcoming elections to the Bundestag Christina Schubert and Bundestag deputy Christian Klink published a post in their accounts in which they discussed the recent German decision to buy four submarines from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and to this post they attached photos of the Russian submarine "Varshavyanka" of project 636.

"The party has mistaken the Russian submarine for a German Navy submersible!" - informed the newspaper.

Earlier, on March 12, 2024, it became known that the German government plans to buy 10 self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000, as the German army is experiencing a shortage of artillery.

Prior to that, on March 3, military expert Ilya Kramnik told Izvestia about the depletion of armament stocks in NATO countries. At the same time, the Financial Times newspaper wrote that Germany's ammunition stockpiles were severely depleted and needed €20 billion to replenish them.

At the end of January, The Economist wrote that the Bundeswehr was in the most dismal state than at any time in history. Because of Ukraine 's support, Germany's military is barely able to support its own army.
