- Media has learned of attempts by lawyers to prevent the release of a report on anti-Trump cases

A court in the United States has temporarily blocked the publication of a report on the results of investigations into President-elect Donald Trump by special prosecutor Jack Smith. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on January 7.
Such a ruling was issued by Judge Eileen Cannon of the Federal Court of the Southern District of Florida. According to her ruling, Smith's report will not be published and distributed until the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, which is located in Atlanta (Georgia), has not completed proceedings against two former Trump advisers in the case of improper handling of classified documents by the president-elect.
WP reported, citing an email in its possession, that Trump's lawyers sent a petition to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Jan. 6 demanding that he refuse to release the report and fire Smith. They reasoned that publishing the document days before Trump's inauguration was "not in the public interest" and could negatively impact the transition of power.
Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that he would publish any Jack Smith report, having previously redacted the materials. For his part, Smith believes that the attorney general will not release any part of the report, and if he does release the document, it will not be until Friday morning, January 10.
A day earlier, Judge Juan Merchan refused to postpone the verdict, which is scheduled for January 10, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in the case of forgery of financial documents of the Trump Organization in the payment of money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. It is reported that the defendant's motion to stay the case, including sentencing, is canceled.
Prior to that, on November 25, the staff of US President-elect Donald Trump welcomed the decision of special prosecutor Jack Smith, who asked the court to stop the investigation of the criminal case against the Republican.
Earlier, on November 11, Politico reported that US Justice Department officials fear Trump's retaliation after the criminal cases against him. The agency fears that Trump will want to transform the Ministry in accordance with his representations.
On November 7, it became known that Prosecutor Smith is considering closing criminal cases against Trump. Smith is prosecuting two cases against the elected head of the White House. In the first, the former President is accused of interference in the 2020 elections, in the second - in improper handling of classified documents.
